This is another reason why I did not jump to the conclusion when I first heard the news of their generosity. I did not believe their offer is impeccable without any expectation for profit sharing. Thailand needs stability in Laos for their own gain, so they would do what they can to maintain friendly relation not that they care crap about us.
Sadly, Laos is not capable of hosting all the games due to its financial hardship so almost half of the sports events are to be eliminated; as a result, some other bidding countries are quite unhappy about it especially their athletes who without a doubt expect to perform their best, must now have to wait for another Asian Games. We Laotians should be grateful for all the considerate supports from those countries because without their compromises, there would only be a dream for Laos. As I had said in my other posts, if this event would generate revenues for locals and state then I am all for it as long as is not in the expense of our people. Nonetheless, I personally don’t think that Laos is ready for this showcase given the fact that we are still deprived so much. But if the Laotian governments believe the benefits would outweigh the defects, then I wish them luck. It is the most crucial event in our history and the majority of Laotians probably second this milestone consensus.
Other potential benefits are the opportunity to show the world our geographical location, our unique culture, the beauty of our tradition and the experience in hosting the game itself is equally important. The building of infrastructures would be another incentive, so Laos can learn from it and in the foreseeable future, we can reduce heavy dependency on foreigners. When we are poor, we negotiate from a weak position and the government would not tell us any forced concessions behind the scene
